Albanian arrested in Italy for trafficking 7 kilograms of pure cocaine
Seven kilograms of pure cocaine, sealed in half-kilogram blocks and carefully stored in a dark backpack on the floor of the car.
This is the result of a record seizure made by officers of the Treviso Police Headquarters yesterday, during a routine patrol in San Trovaso, in the municipality of Preganziol.
A 44-year-old Albanian, living clandestinely in Italy, was arrested and charged with possession of narcotics with the intent to traffic.
"It was not a lengthy investigation that caught the courier's attention, but the clinical eye of a patrol car. Stopped for a routine traffic check, the forty-four-year-old displayed excessive and unjustified nervousness, giving contradictory answers that prompted the officers to further inspect the vehicle," informs media Italian.
The surprise came when the officers looked into the space between the back seat and the front passenger seat. There was a seemingly harmless backpack, but when it was opened, it revealed the cargo. 14 blocks of white powder, ready to be sold. Immediate analysis with reagents at the police station confirmed the suspicions: it was high-quality cocaine.
According to investigators' estimates, a similar quantity was intended to supply the Treviso area and its surrounding area for the weekend festivities. Once cut and distributed at retail, the drugs would have generated a turnover of several hundred thousand euros.
In addition to the drugs, the police seized the Albanian's mobile phone: analyzing his contacts and messages will be essential for identifying the suppliers and recipients of the shipment.
Last night's seizure represents a record for the Treviso police headquarters, surpassing even last summer's major operation called "Focus 23". In that case, the Flying Squad dismantled a Dominican drug trafficking organization operating between the Veneto and Emilia-Romagna regions, with twenty-three suspects and two arrests.
