Iran opens Strait of Hormuz, first maritime transport movements begin

Hours after the US-Iran agreement for a two-week ceasefire, shipping movements through the Strait of Hormuz have begun.

However, the data showed a small number of movements in these first hours.

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said in a statement that Tehran would cease counterattacks and ensure safe passage through the waterway in the Strait of Hormuz if attacks against it stopped.

On Wednesday morning, Iran's Foreign Minister said that "safe passage through the Strait of Hormuz will be possible through coordination with the Iranian Armed Forces."

Meanwhile, Iran's Supreme National Security Council has described the deal as a victory over the US, claiming that Trump had accepted Iran's conditions to end hostilities.

Meanwhile, Trump told the French news agency AFP that it was a "total and complete victory."
