Albanian student protest on Monday, Mexhiti: Call for awareness in North Macedonia
One of the leaders of VELEN in North Macedonia, Izet Mexhiti, has reacted regarding the protest of Albanian students, which will be held tomorrow at 12:30 in Skopje.
"Language policy in North Macedonia, unfortunately, is regulated by a half-baked law. Half-baked laws provide half-baked solutions. Therefore, tomorrow's protest is a call for awareness for all political and social actors who must contribute to better legal solutions and long-term institutional policies in the country," Mexhiti wrote, KosovaPress reports.
He called for awareness instead of politicization, emphasizing that student protests are always an alarm for social phenomena that political structures must address as a whole.
Through the message "The Albanian language calls - your voice is our power", Albanian students on Monday protested against the Albanian jurisprudence exam, considering it a legitimate and constitutional right.
In recent days, Albanian students in Skopje, Tetovo, Kumanovo, Gostivar and Kicevo have launched a symbolic action by placing posters in various places in the cities, through which they demand that the jurisprudence exam be held in Albanian. The message on the posters is clear: "We have learned Albanian - we will give the exam in Albanian", expressing their dissatisfaction and the demand for respect for the right to education in their native language./Periscopes/
